So… your child’s first gymnastics term is coming up.
You’ve booked the class, found their old PE kit (somewhere near the back of a cupboard), and now you’re wondering… what happens next?
First of all – breathe.
You’re in the right place. Whether your little one is a fearless flipper or a cautious crawler, Wickers Gymnastics is ready to welcome them (and you!) into a friendly, fun, and wobbly new routine.
🩰 What Should They Wear?
No sparkles required!
For the first few sessions, kids can wear anything comfy – leggings or joggers and a fitted t-shirt work perfectly. Bare feet in the gym. Long hair tied back. No jewellery (yes, even that Elsa necklace that’s “really special”).
💡 Want to level up later? Wickers has official leotards, shorts, hoodies and gym bags available to buy online or in person. But it’s not essential on day one.
🚶 What Actually Happens in Class?
Expect giggles, games, and a whole lot of bouncing.
Your child will:
Warm up with fun movement games
Explore equipment (think bars, beams, vaults, and the legendary foam pit)
Learn the basics: balance, rolls, coordination and body awareness
Work in a small group with a friendly, qualified coach
Most importantly: Have fun!
Parents usually don’t stay in the gym during structured classes – but don’t worry, there’s always a staff member around if your child needs anything.
🤷 What If My Child’s Shy / Overexcited / Can’t Do a Cartwheel?
Totally normal.
First sessions are all about getting comfortable. Some kids join in immediately. Others take a few weeks to build confidence – and that’s ok! Our coaches are trained to support children of all personalities, skill levels, and energy types.
Remember:
✅ Nobody expects perfection
✅ Everyone starts somewhere
✅ Progress comes from play, not pressure
🧼 Do I Need to Pack Anything?
Not much!
🧴 A water bottle (named – please)
💳 Loyalty card if you’re collecting stamps
That’s it! No mobiles or valuables, please.
💬 Still Feeling Nervous?
Here’s what other parents have said:
“My grandson has grown in confidence and loves to learn new moves. All the coaches are kind and very encouraging to the young children .” S Robinson
