One day your child is happily climbing the sofa cushions.
The next day they’re attempting a cartwheel in the kitchen and asking, very seriously, if you think they could learn to do a flip.
If that sounds familiar, it might be the perfect time to introduce them to gymnastics.
At Wickers Gymnastics Club, our waiting list is now open, with classes running weekdays and Saturdays for children aged 4 years and upwards.
And before you picture intense Olympic training and chalk clouds everywhere, don’t worry. That’s not how things start here.
What Happens in our Gymnastics Sessions?
Each class runs for one hour, giving children plenty of time to warm up, practise skills, and build confidence on the apparatus.
Sessions are led by British Gymnastics qualified coaches, supported by members of our Leadership Academy, who are developing their coaching skills alongside our experienced team.
Children work in small groups, which means coaches can give plenty of attention, encouragement, and the occasional “that was almost perfect, try that again” moment.
Every session begins with a warm-up, because surprisingly enough, launching straight into cartwheels is not recommended.
From there, gymnasts follow a three-week rotation, giving them time to experience and develop skills across the main pieces of equipment:
Floor
Vault
Bars
Beam
Trampette
Each week focuses on two pieces of apparatus, which helps children build skills gradually without feeling rushed.
It also means there’s always something new coming up in the next session, which keeps things interesting.
Why Children Love Gymnastics (And Parents Do Too)
Gymnastics has a wonderful habit of helping children develop skills they don’t even realise they’re practising.
They improve balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility, of course. But just as importantly, they also learn patience, resilience, and the quiet satisfaction of mastering something that once felt impossible.
That first straight cartwheel or steady beam walk can feel like a pretty big achievement when you’re five.
And yes, there are plenty of moments of laughter along the way too.
A Quick Note About British Gymnastics Membership
All participants are required to obtain British Gymnastics Community Membership by their second week.
We promise this isn’t just mysterious paperwork designed to keep parents busy.
Membership provides important insurance and safety cover for gymnasts training in affiliated clubs, helping ensure sessions run safely and professionally.
It’s also a sign that your child is training within a recognised and regulated club environment, which is something we take seriously at Wickers.
Joining the Waiting List
Our children's classes are popular, which means places tend to fill quickly once they become available.
If your child would like to join Wickers, the best place to start is by contacting us with your preferred days here.
Once a suitable space becomes available, we’ll be in touch with the next steps. We can't wait to hear from you!
