Why Joining the Waiting List Might Be the Best Thing You Do

If you've ever found the perfect activity for your child only to discover there's a waiting list, you'll know how quickly excitement can turn into disappointment.

One minute you're imagining them happily taking part, learning new skills and burning off some of that seemingly endless energy. The next, you're staring at the words "join waiting list" and wondering whether there's any point bothering.

It's a familiar feeling.

In fact, many parents quietly abandon the idea altogether at that point. After all, a waiting list sounds exactly like what it says on the tin. You put your name down, wait an unspecified amount of time and hope that somebody eventually remembers you exist.

The reality is usually far more encouraging than that.

Things Change Faster Than You Might Think

From the outside, a gymnastics club can look surprisingly fixed.

You see classes running each week, children attending regularly and coaches teaching familiar groups. It's easy to assume those classes stay exactly the same month after month, with every space permanently occupied by children who have somehow signed a lifelong commitment to forward rolls and cartwheels.

The truth is much more interesting.

Children grow up. School starters move into older groups. Families move house. Timetables change. Interests evolve. New coaching capacity becomes available. Additional sessions are introduced.

All of those little changes create movement throughout the club, often in ways that aren't visible from the outside.

A class that looks completely full today may look very different a few months from now.

The Families Who Hear First

Imagine you're looking for a table at a busy restaurant.

You could stand outside and hope someone leaves at exactly the right moment.

Or you could put your name down and let them know you're waiting.

Most people would choose the second option.

Joining a waiting list works in much the same way.

When suitable spaces become available, families who have already registered their interest are the people we contact first. It means you're already in the system, already on our radar and already in the best position to hear about opportunities as they arise.

You don't have to keep checking the website every week or wonder whether something might have changed.

We'll know you're interested.

The Club Is Growing Too

One of the reasons we're particularly encouraging families to join the waiting list at the moment is because Wickers continues to grow and evolve.

As children progress through the club and move into different sessions, new opportunities naturally emerge. Additional coaching capacity also allows us to look at how we can support more children and families.

In other words, today's waiting list isn't necessarily tomorrow's waiting list.

What feels full right now may not stay that way forever.

It's Not Just About Waiting

There's another side to waiting lists that people don't often think about.

They help us understand what families are actually looking for.

If lots of parents are interested in a particular age group, class type or session time, that information becomes incredibly valuable. It helps us identify demand and plan for the future, making informed decisions about where additional classes or opportunities may be needed.

So when you join a waiting list, you're not simply waiting for a place. You're also helping us understand how the club can continue to grow and support local families.

Don't Decide for Us

One of the saddest things we occasionally hear is:

"We didn't put our name down because we assumed there wasn't any chance of getting a place."

And honestly, we'd much rather have the opportunity to help.

The worst outcome is not joining the waiting list because you've already decided the answer on our behalf.

Things change.

Spaces become available.

New opportunities appear.

And while nobody can guarantee exactly when that might happen, being on the waiting list means you're ready when it does.

Thinking About Gymnastics?

If your child would love to give gymnastics a try, we'd always encourage you to register your interest, even if there isn't an immediate space available.

The best opportunities often go to the families who simply took that first step and put their name down.

You can find information about our preschool, beginner and junior gymnastics classes here:

After all, if your child is excited about starting gymnastics, it would be a shame to miss an opportunity that might arrive sooner than you think.

Is it worth joining the waiting list?

Yes. Families on the waiting list are contacted when suitable spaces become available, and opportunities can arise throughout the year as children progress through the club.

How often do places become available?

This varies, but classes regularly change as children move between age groups and sessions.

Can I join the waiting list for preschool gymnastics?

Absolutely. Waiting lists are available for a range of age groups, including preschool and Butterflies classes.

What if I'm not sure which class is right for my child?

Get in touch and we'll be happy to help you find the most suitable option.
