We’re thrilled to announce that Wickers Gymnastics Club Championships are back and ready to roll! Mark your calendars for Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November 2024 because it’s going to be an action-packed weekend for our Junior members. Whether your child is a seasoned competitor or has just started mastering their cartwheel, this is the perfect opportunity for them to strut their stuff and show off all their hard-earned skills.
So, grab your leotards, stretch out those muscles, and get ready for a gymnastics weekend like no other!
Who Can Participate? (Hint: Probably You!)
Our Junior members—those lucky enough to attend sessions on Monday through Friday at 4pm, 5.10pm, 6.20pm, Friday at 7.30pm, or on Saturdays at 9.00am, 10.10am, 11.20am, and 12.30pm—are all invited to join. Even if you’re new to the club and still figuring out which way to tumble, we’d absolutely love for you to participate. In fact, this could be the perfect event to get some competition experience under your belt (or leotard).
And don’t worry—our trusty coaches will be on hand all weekend to keep things running smoothly and to help your little gymnasts every step (or flip) of the way. No one’s going it alone!
How Will the Championships Work?
The Championships will take place over the entire weekend, but before you start imagining yourself living at the gym for two days straight, don’t worry—you’ll only need to be there for your child’s specific session. Once we’ve received all the entries, we’ll be putting together a detailed timetable (aren’t we organised?). Your gymnast will arrive, warm up, compete, and have their medal presentation all in one go. One quick round, then it’s time to cheer on their fellow gymnasts or head home for some well-deserved relaxation.
Each gymnast will have the chance to show off a short floor routine, a vault, and a bar routine. No need to panic—whether your child has been training for years or is still working on sticking the perfect landing, it’s all about having fun and giving it their best shot.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss This (and Neither Should Your Family!)
It’s not just about the gymnasts, either—this is a real family affair. We encourage all gymnasts to bring along their family and friends to cheer them on! And because we know it’s not a proper event without snacks, there’ll be refreshments on hand, plus a raffle to add a little extra excitement to the day.
Oh, and did we mention the goodies? Every gymnast who competes will receive a participation certificate, a medal, and a t-shirt. And for those lucky enough to place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their age group, there’s an extra-special medal waiting for you. (Who doesn’t love a bit of shiny metal around their neck?)
Plus, this is our main fundraising event for the year, with all funds raised going straight back into the club. That means new equipment, extra staff training, and even more coaching courses to keep your kids flipping, tumbling, and soaring higher than ever. So by supporting this event, you’re also helping improve the club for everyone—talk about a win-win!
How to Enter
Feeling excited? Ready to get involved? Let’s talk logistics:
Entry Fee: £17.00 (includes a t-shirt—please make sure you pick the right size when booking, as we can’t change it once it’s ordered).
Deadline for Entries: Saturday 5th October. Miss this date, and you’ll be hit with an extra £3 administration fee (nobody likes those, right?).
If you’ve got more than one child competing, you’ll need to book each one separately—yes, that means extra paperwork, but we promise it’s worth it.
And please don’t forget to indicate your child’s t-shirt size when you’re booking—it’s important. Unless you want them swimming in fabric or squeezing into something too snug, which we’re guessing you don’t.
Once you’ve booked, you’ll get a generic confirmation (don’t worry if it’s a bit vague). The office will process your entry, and you’ll get a more specific confirmation with all the details you need, including the date and time of your child’s competition.
Important Dates to Remember
Friday 8th November & Saturday 9th November Junior Sessions: Please note, these regular classes are cancelled to make way for the Club Championships. Don’t panic—your fees for these sessions haven’t been charged.
Safety First (Because We Love a Safe Somersault)
Before we wrap this up, let’s have a quick word about safety (because we all know that gymnastics can be as unpredictable as the weather). Our coaches will be there every step of the way, guiding gymnasts through their routines, but it’s still important for participants to follow all the rules and listen carefully during their sessions. No one wants an unscheduled tumble, right?
As always, it’s vital that gymnasts attend their weekly classes in the lead-up to the competition. Proper training, guidance, and technique practice in our regular sessions will make sure they’re not only ready to wow the crowd but also competing safely and confidently.
The Final Word: Let’s Make It a Weekend to Remember!
The Wickers Club Championships is a fantastic opportunity for gymnasts to show off their skills, support the club, and—most importantly—have a blast. Whether your child walks away with a shiny new medal or just enjoys the experience of competing, they’ll have the chance to be part of something special.
So, what are you waiting for? Get those entries in, polish up those routines, and let’s make November 9th and 10th a weekend to remember!
