Why We Talk About British Gymnastics Membership (and Why You Should Too)

ree

So you’re enrolling your child in gymnastics – brilliant! 🎉One thing you’ll spot in the fine print at Wickers Gymnastics Club is the need for a valid British Gymnastics (BG) membership.

We mention it a lot – but what does it actually mean? And why is it such a good thing for your gymnast?

🧩 What is BG Membership?

In short – BG is the national governing body for gymnastics in the UK.I

f your child trains at a BG-registered club (like Wickers), they must have current BG membership.

Without it, they can’t legally take part in classes – and nobody wants that.

✅ What Does BG Membership Cover (and Why It’s Worth Having)

  • Insurance & safety standards – BG membership ensures coaches are qualified, the venue meets proper safety standards, and your child is covered in case of accident.

  • Club credibility – It means your child is training at a club that meets national standards – not just someone’s garden with a trampoline.

  • Perks for members – BG members get discounts, early access to events, and exclusive offers from partner brands (theme parks, gear, etc).

  • It’s required – Plain and simple. No valid BG membership = no flipping, rolling or cartwheeling at registered clubs.

🔄 How to Renew Your Membership

When it’s time to renew, here’s what to do:

  1. BG will email you a reminder (and so will we).

  2. Log in to your My BG account (check the Profile tab) to see your expiry date and renew.

  3. Make sure you choose the correct membership category – recreational or competitive – as it’s non-refundable.

  4. If you haven’t reset your My BG password yet, do that first – you won’t be able to log in otherwise.

  5. Some clubs manage renewals for their members, others ask you to do it directly. If you’re not sure, just ask us.

  6. BG membership now lasts 12 months. If you renew late, it may be backdated to the start of the month when you pay.

💬 Why Do We Keep Going On About It?

We talk about BG membership a lot because it really matters – for your child’s safety, our club’s standards, and the sport as a whole.

It’s like the gymnastics version of a passport – without it, you’re not getting through the door.

Renewing on time means no interruptions, no awkward admin moments, and more time spent doing what you actually came for – jumping into the foam pit and nailing that forward roll.

If you ever need help logging in, picking the right membership level, or figuring out what’s going on, just give us a shout. We’ve got you.
