Which Wickers Session Is Right for Your Child? (A Simple Parent Guide)

If you’ve found your way to Wickers Gymnastics Club and thought,

“Brilliant, but which session am I actually meant to book?”

You’re not alone.

Between Gloworms, Sensory Snails, Stay and Play, Butterflies, and structured classes, it can feel a bit like choosing from a menu where everything sounds good, but you’re not quite sure what fits your child best.

So here’s a simple, no pressure guide to help you figure it out.

🐛 Gloworms

Best for: Confident walkers who are ready to explore with a parent

Age range: Walkers to 4 years

When: Mondays and Fridays

Gloworms sessions are designed for little ones who are already on the move and keen to climb, explore, and get stuck in.

These are parent and child sessions, starting with a musical warm up led by coaches, followed by time exploring the equipment, and finishing with a song.

Children will:

  • Climb, balance, and explore

  • Get used to the gymnastics environment

  • Build confidence through movement and play

There are session length options of 45 minutes or 1 hour, and children receive a hand stamp, star chart, and certificates for attendance.

Think of this as a gentle but slightly more structured first step into gymnastics.

🐌 Sensory Snails

Best for: Children who prefer a calmer, quieter environment

Age range: 0 to 4 years

When: Thursdays at 12:45pm

Not every child thrives in bright lights, loud music, and busy environments.

Some little ones prefer things a bit calmer, a bit quieter, and a bit more predictable.

Sensory Snails sessions are designed exactly for that.

These sessions include:

  • Limited numbers, with a maximum of 25 children

  • No background music

  • Reduced lighting

  • Zoned play areas for different types of sensory exploration

Children attend with their parent or carer and can move between activities at their own pace.

There is no structure to follow and no pressure to join in, just a calm space to explore, build confidence, and enjoy movement.

Think of this as a slower, more relaxed introduction to gymnastics.

🎈 Stay and Play

Best for: Preschool children who want to explore and burn off energy

Age range: 0 to 4 years

When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

Stay and Play sessions are all about exploration.

These are unstructured sessions where children can access:

  • Soft play

  • Foam pit

  • Trampettes

  • Full gymnastics apparatus

  • Handheld equipment

Sessions run for 2.5 hours, and families can arrive and leave at any time during that window.

There is also a seating area available for snacks, and the gym is nut free, so this should be considered when preparing food.

Think of this as a big, safe indoor space to let them run, climb, bounce, and play.

🦋 Butterflies

Best for: Preschool children ready to take part independently

Age range: 3 to 4 years

When: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

Butterflies sessions are designed for children who are ready to join in without a parent.

These sessions include:

  • A musical warm up

  • Structured activities on apparatus

  • Introduction to basic gymnastics skills

Children work with coaches in a fun, engaging environment and are rewarded with hand stamps and attendance certificates.

All participants will require British Gymnastics membership by their second session.

Think of this as the step between parent led sessions and full gymnastics classes.

🤸 Structured Gymnastics Classes

Best for: Children aged 4 and above, ready for independent, progressive learning

When: Weekdays and Saturdays, via waiting list

These are the main gymnastics classes, where children attend independently and begin developing skills more progressively.

Sessions include:

  • Warm ups

  • Skill development across apparatus

  • Structured coaching

These classes help children build strength, coordination, confidence, and focus.

Think of this as regular weekly progression and skill building.

How to join: Most of these classes run via a waiting list due to demand. Parents can register interest through the website enquiry form.
